Spanish Interpreter Training Books
Simultaneous Interpretation Challenges is a collection of self-study books with CD ROM, written and published by an AIIC professional conference interpreter. This practical guide consists of audio material and language exercises to guide students through the 13 chapters, not only providing them with speeches but also with the analysis of terminology, false friends, slang, acronyms, confusing words, specific words related to conferences and congresses, and many other exercises. This package of advanced Spanish interpreter-training material has been revised not only by interpreters but also by teachers, who applied the necessary methodology to guide future Spanish interpreters with appropriate exercises to improve their listening skills and update and enrich their terminology. The conferences in Simultaneous Interpretation Challenges 1 mirror real conferences in the Latin American and European market, giving interpreters the possibility to put themselves to the test and interpret these recordings without the pressure of an audience.
The book contains 13 chapters covering various topics that come up in everyday conferences ranging from marketing to finance to topics often discussed in the United Nations. This 150-page package comes with a CD ROM, answer key and glossary for every single chapter. This book is excellent for:
- Interpreters that want to practice interpretation from Spanish (Spanish A, B, or C).
- Professional interpreters that would like to understand and improve their Spanish and also to interpret the conferences into their native language and get a passive Spanish.
- Students studying simultaneous interpretation.
- Teachers at simultaneous interpretation schools that may need back up material and exercises that they don't have time to prepare.
- Interpreters that would like to practice more conferences before any certification exam or test such as the one given by United Nations.

Excellent Book!!!!! Very practical. I have a Spanish B and I found it very challenging. Some exercises are difficult but contain everyday conference words that are essential for interpreters. Good job!!! Comment posted by Ana Maria Fernandez, Miami, USA
The book is worth every penny. Pair this book with headphones, and you are on your way to interpret conferences from Spanish, IF you have a good command of the language. Comment posted by Troy Sharr, Poland
I have to say there are no books like this for conference interpreters. The author certainly did a good job including topics of interest and created exercises that I even found difficult having studied Spanish all my life. The audio has a superb quality however the Argentinean accent may be difficult for some non-native speakers if you are not used to listening to these gauchos. All in all, the author did an amazing job. I highly recommend it. Comment posted by Lydia Dorrego, USA
Wow!!! It contains lessons not on simultaneous interpreting but lessons on very advanced terminology I have never seen. No doubt the book is written by conference interpreters that they know what they're doing. Comment posted by Steve Hunt, UK
It is a perfect book for simultaneous interpreters. It is not for the beginning interpreter or someone wanting to brush up on their interpreting skills. Watch out beginners!!!! The author does not mention interpreting skills at all. He takes for granted that you're able to handle a speech in Spanish. Comment posted by Juan Micokvitch, Belgium
Definitely a CHALLENGE!!! Mr. Soriano I am waiting for your next book, when will it be available??? GREAT JOB. Comment posted by Maria Grazia Crouy, The Netherlands
After taking your classes, I couldn't expect less from you. The book lived up to my expectations. But I wanted more chapters. Please, include more chapters in the next one. Comment posted by Monique Forster, Canada
Yes! finally the book I needed. I loved the false friends in all the units. The conferences were hard though. But simultaneous interpreting is not easy so... good thinking! Comment posted by Erika Detraz, France
Watch out Spanish Cs!!!! You are about to read a great book and interpret conferences that will make you wonder if the C is really a C. Comment posted by Umberto Ferraris, Spain.
